Amridge University conferred degrees
on 179 students at its 40th
commencement ceremony May 31. The
179 graduates included six
doctorates, 70 master’s degrees, and
103 bachelor degrees.
As he addressed the graduates, Dr.
Rex A. Turner, Jr., president of the
university, commended them for their
character, perseverance, and
leadership. “Your accomplishments
and service will enhance this
University and will contribute to
the legacy other students and
faculty will inherit,” he said.
Amridge University is the only
university in Alabama accredited to
confer the Ph.D. degree in Marriage
and Family Therapy.
The first three degrees in this
program were conferred to the
following graduates:
William J. De Leo of Wilmington
NC, Ph.D. in Marriage and Family
Therapy
Jeanell Jones Norvell of Pike Road,
Ph.D. in Marriage and Family
Therapy.
Karen S. Gongola of Plainview AR,
Ph.D. in Professional Counseling.
Dr. De Leo will be teaching at
Pfeiffer University in Charlotte NC;
Dr. Norvell will be teaching at Troy
University; and Dr Gongola will be
teaching at Arkansas State
University.
The other doctorates conferred were
to Chris F. Classen of Colorado
Springs CO (in absentia), who earned
the Doctor of Ministry in Family
Therapy; and Doctor of
Ministry degrees to Julia P.
Craig-Horne of Brooklyn NY and
Korean native Yoo-Chang Bang now of
Mobile.
The commencement speaker, Dr. Rodney
Cloud, was announced as the next
Dean of the Turner School of
Theology. His remarks challenged
the graduates to prepare for
greatness. Dr. Cloud holds
theological degrees from Lipscomb
University, Vanderbilt University,
Harding Graduate School of Religion,
and Hebrew Union College. Dr.
Winston Temple has served as Dean
from the inception of the Turner
School of Theology. He will
continue to serve as Assistant Dean.
Students from throughout the 50
states are enrolled in Amridge.
Graduates came from 34 states and
Canada. |
